So, did you see this? A four-star admiral from the U.S. Navy confirmed that military forces are operating an active node on the Bitcoin network. Yes, you read that right.

Admiral Samuel Paparo, who commands INDOPACOM (basically the command responsible for all U.S. military operations in the Indo-Pacific), was very direct when speaking to Congress: they have a node running right now. It’s not for mining, but for monitoring and security testing using the Bitcoin protocol. Paparo went even further, saying that the cryptocurrency has “incredible potential” as a tool for projecting American power.

Now, what makes this interesting is the geopolitical context. INDOPACOM is literally the command responsible for the U.S.’s strategic competition with China. So when a high-ranking military general talks about Bitcoin as a projection of power, he isn’t just talking for the sake of it. There’s geopolitical weight in that.

For those who don’t know, a Bitcoin node is basically a computer that stores the entire blockchain history and validates transactions. Unlike mining, it doesn’t generate rewards and doesn’t require special hardware. It’s like participating in the network independently, without relying on third parties. It’s estimated that there are between 15,000 and 20,000 public nodes on the network (the actual number is probably higher, and many operate behind firewalls).

What’s the most curious part? Bitcoin was literally designed to resist control by powerful governments. And now a U.S. military combat command is operating a node directly. A node among tens of thousands doesn’t threaten Bitcoin’s independence, but the symbolism is strong: governments are no longer ignoring the technology—they’re integrating it.

This changes the narrative about cryptocurrency as a tool of resistance versus a tool of state power. The reality is more complex than it seemed a few years ago. Meanwhile, consumer sentiment continues to decline, but BTC and Nasdaq have risen quite a lot, generating gains mainly for institutional investors. The difference between Wall Street and Main Street has never been so big.

It’s worth keeping an eye on how this evolves. When militaries of world powers begin operating crypto infrastructure, the conversation changes completely.
