A U.S.-flagged cargo ship was attacked near Qatar

On May 10, Iran's Tasnim News Agency, citing informed sources, reported that a U.S.-flagged cargo ship was attacked and set on fire after being hit by gunfire near Qatar.
This is another tactical probe in the "low-intensity friction" between the U.S. and Iran in the Strait of Hormuz. Since March, Iran has reported multiple attacks targeting U.S. and related vessels, while the U.S. military has continued to define these conflicts as not reaching the threshold for resuming large-scale combat.
The attack occurred just one day after the U.S. military attacked an Iranian civilian vessel on May 7, causing casualties, and the location was near Qatar, not in the core conflict area of the Strait of Hormuz, indicating a potential expansion of the confrontation scope.
This attack was disclosed unilaterally by Iran's Tasnim News Agency, and just on May 4, U.S. officials explicitly denied a similar attack report.
This information warfare highlights how both sides, under the guise of a "ceasefire," are competing for moral high ground and operational initiative by controlling the narrative; the actual level of military engagement may be more complex than publicly available information. $ETH
