My current attitude towards L2/mainnet is just one sentence: don’t compete with gas, compete with "failed transactions." Mainnet is indeed expensive, but sometimes you go to L2 to save that little gas, only to end up cross-chain + waiting for confirmation + failing again, and the experience just blows up... Honestly, it depends on what you're doing: for frequent small operations and interacting with a bunch of dApps, go to L2; for large amounts, one-time transactions, or when security/ composability is critical, stick to the mainnet, even if it’s more expensive, don’t bother with the hassle.
There’s also a pretty annoying point: many people complain, “Why is L2 so expensive now?” but often it’s because they messed up their nonce, stuck a bunch of transactions, and end up having to pay more to resend. This reminds me of the recent on-chain gaming scene with inflation + studios + coin price spiral collapse—looks lively on-chain, but in the end, it’s just a bunch of front-running and batch scripting competition. For ordinary users, it’s increasingly like paying transaction fees just to work... Anyway, I try to minimize the number of times I do this, don’t treat yourself like a miner.
