Ethereum still leads DeFi by a large margin.

But the trend underneath the surface is changing faster than many realize.

In just 4 months:
โš ๏ธ Ethereumโ€™s DeFi TVL dominance dropped from 63.5% โ†’ 54%

Meanwhile, rival ecosystems continue gaining traction:
๐Ÿ”ถ Solana
๐Ÿ”ถ BNB Chain
๐Ÿ”ถ Bitcoin
๐Ÿ”ถ Tron
๐Ÿ”ถ Base

The important part is NOT that Ethereum lost leadership.

Itโ€™s that liquidity is now spreading across multiple ecosystems instead of concentrating heavily into one chain.

Why is this happening?

Because newer chains are competing aggressively on:
โ–ซ๏ธ lower fees
โ–ซ๏ธ faster execution
โ–ซ๏ธ better UX
โ–ซ๏ธ retail accessibility
โ–ซ๏ธ specialized ecosystems

At the same time:
Ethereum still dominates in:
โœ… developer activity
โœ… DeFi infrastructure
โœ… institutional trust
โœ… ecosystem depth

So this is NOT the end of Ethereum.

But it does show that DeFi is becoming increasingly multi-chain.

The next 5 years may not belong to a single dominant blockchain anymore.

Instead:
โšก liquidity may rotate dynamically between ecosystems depending on narratives, users, and innovation cycles.

Ethereum still leads DeFi โ€” but its monopoly is weakening as the multi-chain era accelerates.

54% looks quite high, but losing 10 percentage points in 4 months is a bit alarming given that slope.

Institutional funds are still in ETH, retail investors have already gone to play with memes.

ETH developers are more numerous than users; this mismatch will eventually be accounted for.

Fees are too high, driving small-scale users away; this is a structural problem.

The multi-chain era has truly arrived; ETH remains the big brother, but no longer dominates alone.

Is Bitcoin also considered DeFi? The TVL in the Lightning Network isn't very substantial.

Maybe in five years, no chain will truly reign supreme; it'll all be liquidity nomads.

Base, backed by Coinbase, indeed gets started quickly, but whether it can sustain remains to be seen.

Liquidity fragmentation is a paradise for arbitrageurs and a hell for ordinary users.
