#PolymarketDaily
As we head towards the 2026 FIFA World Cup (the first tournament to feature 48 teams from the USA, Mexico, and Canada), prediction markets and betting odds have identified a clear group of favorites.
According to Polymarket data as of May 8, 2026, volume and "yes" odds point to a close race between Europe's strong teams and the reigning champions.
Current Favorites (May 2026)
France 17% Current favourite. Possesses a deep squad and Kylian Mbappé at the peak of his career.
Spain 15% Last Euro 2024 champions. Odds have shifted slightly due to Lamine Yamal's recent injury, but he is expected to play.
England 11% Possesses the "golden generation" with Bellingham and Kane, but markets are concerned about their run of bad luck in the knockout rounds.
Argentina 9% Last champions. Although Messi is 38, the core squad that won in Qatar remains largely the same.
Brazil, under Carlo Ancelotti, is exhibiting a more structured defense complemented by stars like Vinícius Júnior, with odds of 9%.
France and Spain have the highest liquidity on most platforms. Investors are relying on France's pure athleticism and Spain's tactical cohesion.
While some betting sites favor Spain slightly over France, Polymarket currently leans more towards France. This discrepancy often leads to high trading volume as users try to capitalize on the "undervalued" Spanish team.
Surprise Candidates: Portugal (around 8%) and Germany (around 6.7%) are seeing increased "Yes" bets following their recent strong performances. Germany, in particular, enters the tournament on a seven-game winning streak.
Host Country Excitement: USA and Mexico are considered low-probability (around 1-2% chance), but "Reaching the Quarterfinals" bets for the host nation are seeing significant interest.
My Opinion: If I were to cast a "vote" in the prediction market today, Spain would seem like the most disciplined pick given their success in recent major tournaments, but France would be a safer bet in terms of raw talent.
The tournament kicks off on June 11th, a little over a month away, so expect these percentages to change significantly after the opening match in Mexico City!
