The US and Iran are now openly accusing each other of triggering a new military confrontation in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical energy chokepoints.
United States Central Command says US forces intercepted “unprovoked Iranian attacks” while three US Navy destroyers were transiting the strait late Thursday, claiming American forces responded with self defense strikes.
Iran tells a completely different story.
Tehran accuses the US of violating the fragile ceasefire by launching strikes on multiple targets in and around Hormuz first escalating tensions near the center of the ongoing conflict.
Then came the Trump response.
Donald Trump reportedly insisted the ceasefire is still active, describing the strikes as “just a love tap.”
