Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin made a transaction swapping approximately $4 worth of XDB for ETH on April 30th, when he was targeted by a well-known MEV bot "jaredfromsubway.eth" in a sandwich attack. On-chain data shows that the bot manipulated around $1.14 million worth of WETH between SushiSwap and Uniswap V2, buying in advance and then selling to influence the transaction execution price. Although this operation likely resulted in a loss after deducting gas fees, and the actual slippage impact on Buterin was only a few cents, the incident demonstrates that the related MEV bots are highly automated, scanning nearly all pending transactions in the public mempool. Reports indicate that Buterin has recently been advocating for solutions like the crypto mempool to reduce toxic MEV issues on the Ethereum network. (CoinDesk)
