I just learned about a quite interesting blockchain project - Internet Computer, abbreviated as ICP. Actually, ICP stands for Internet Computer Protocol, an advanced blockchain protocol developed by the DFINITY Foundation with a rather ambitious goal: to transform the public internet into a fully decentralized computing environment.
What’s great about ICP is that it allows developers to build and deploy applications directly on the blockchain without the need for intermediary servers or centralized databases. Technically, the system operates based on a network of independent data centers worldwide, connected through specialized nodes. These nodes are organized into subnets — groups capable of processing data and running applications similar to smaller blockchains.
What makes ICP stand out compared to other blockchains is its transaction processing speed of just 3-5 seconds, much faster than Ethereum or Bitcoin. The platform also has infinite scalability, capable of handling millions of applications without affecting performance. Transaction fees are also cheaper than traditional blockchain platforms thanks to its unique fee system.
In terms of tokenomics, the ICP token plays a vital role in the ecosystem. This token is used for network governance via the NNS (Network Nervous System) — the autonomous governance center of the Internet Computer. ICP holders can vote on network changes, and the token is also used to pay for deployment and operation fees of applications. According to the latest data, the total supply of ICP is 551,832,001 tokens with a circulating supply of 552,079,235 tokens as of May 2026.
This project is backed by leading investment funds such as Andreessen Horowitz, Polychain Capital, and Aspect Ventures. Since the DFINITY Foundation was established in 2016, ICP has raised over $195 million through funding rounds — a Series A in 2017 with $61 million, followed by a Series B in 2018 with $102 million. The development team consists of more than 188 experts in technology, blockchain, and security, led by Dominic Williams, the founder of DFINITY.
The ICP ecosystem is developing quite dynamically, with hundreds of decentralized applications running, from DeFi, NFTs to Web3 platforms. The roadmap for 2024-2025 focuses on expanding applications, improving the NNS governance system, and increasing interaction with other blockchains like Ethereum and Bitcoin.
Although ICP has great potential thanks to its advanced technology and high practical application, like all blockchain projects, it remains highly volatile. If you're interested, you can learn more on major exchanges to get a better understanding of this project.
