OpenAI suspends Stargate project in the UK
ME News. On April 9 (UTC+8), OpenAI has paused its Stargate infrastructure project in the UK. The main reasons include soaring energy costs and uncertainty in the regulatory environment. The project was initially announced in September this year. It planned to deploy up to 8,000 GPUs in collaboration with Nscale and Nvidia. The project is currently on hold. An OpenAI spokesperson said the company is still evaluating the conditions for moving the project forward, and will proceed when the regulatory environment and energy costs are more suitable for long-term infrastructure investment. Last month, OpenAI announced major adjustments to its Stargate computing infrastructure project, abandoning the plan to build its own data centers and instead using third-party cloud services such as AWS and Google Cloud to provide computing power. It also expects that the total computing expenditure by 2030 will be reduced from the previously projected $1.4 trillion to approximately $600 billion. (Source: ODAILY)
