I noticed an interesting paradox: one tweet from Elon Musk can shake the entire crypto market, yet his stance on cryptocurrencies remains a mystery to many. The tech billionaire, heading Tesla and SpaceX, has long earned a reputation as the main influencer in digital assets, although his attitude towards them has always been ambiguous.
But what exactly is in Musk's crypto portfolio? Let's start with the most obvious. Bitcoin is perhaps the most stable asset in his portfolio. I remember in 2021, Tesla announced an investment of $1.5 billion in BTC, and that was the moment crypto went mainstream. Although the company later sold a significant portion of its holdings, Musk himself confirmed that he still personally owns Bitcoin. For him, it’s more like digital gold, a store of value. Currently, Bitcoin is trading around 80.89K with a market dominance of 57.44% — the king of cryptocurrencies, as it’s often called.
Ethereum takes the second place in his asset portfolio. Musk revealed this during the 2021 The ₿ Word conference, and it made sense. Ethereum is not just a currency; it’s a platform for smart contracts, DeFi, and NFTs. It’s clear that Musk understands the ecosystem’s potential. Right now, Ethereum is valued at about 2.33K with a market share of around 10%.
But the funniest part of his crypto portfolio is Dogecoin. Musk openly calls it the people's cryptocurrency, and his support for DOGE has gone far beyond simply owning the coin. He promoted using Dogecoin for payments in his companies, turning DOGE into a cultural phenomenon. Low fees and an active community are why he sees potential in it as a medium of exchange. Currently, DOGE is trading around 0.11 with a capitalization of 17.15B.
There are rumors about other cryptocurrencies Musk might own. For example, Shiba Inu — although Musk denies direct ownership, his tweets about dog coins regularly cause waves in the market. The same goes for Floki Inu, named after his dog. No direct proof exists, but Musk’s influence on these assets is obvious.
What’s interesting is that Musk’s cryptocurrencies reflect his philosophy: from the conservative Bitcoin to the innovative Ethereum and the fun yet serious Dogecoin. His portfolio shows that even for the richest person on the planet, crypto is not just speculation but a belief in the future of decentralized assets. If you want to understand where the crypto market is heading, sometimes it’s enough to just see what Musk is doing. By the way, on Gate, you can track all these assets in real time and form your own opinion about their prospects.
