The protection of DeFi developers in the U.S. Senate's Cryptocurrency Market Structure Act faces joint opposition from law enforcement agencies.
ME News Report, April 9 (UTC+8), multiple law enforcement agencies including the U.S. Marshals Service and the National District Attorneys Association have recently written to members of Congress opposing a provision in the Senate’s Cryptocurrency Market Structure Act that protects DeFi software developers from being classified as money transmitters, arguing that this provision would weaken law enforcement’s ability to combat financial crimes. Chairman Tim Scott of the Senate Banking Committee and Senator Cynthia Lummis insist that the provision remain unchanged, and the crypto industry has explicitly stated they do not accept substantive amendments. Democratic Senator and Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley and others have called for wording adjustments. After Congress adjourns, whether the bill can gain bipartisan support to advance to committee review remains uncertain. (Source: Foresight News)
