Centuries-old Chinese grassroots society has gradually formed a set of "stable" mechanisms to survive in environments with scarce resources, high risks, and lack of social security: passing on the family line is a life mission, raising children to support old age is a must, family interests outweigh personal choices, children must obey parental arrangements, marriage prioritizes social matching, sacrificing happiness for face, family scandals should not be exposed, divorce is shameful, women must marry early and have children early, stability is better than risky work or entrepreneurship, having a stable job is respectable, small wealth is enough, don’t cause trouble, be obedient and self-disciplined, prefer earning less over risking being the first to stand out, personal relationships outweigh rules, unwilling to offend others, overly concerned with public opinion and others’ evaluations, face is more important than practicality, hesitant to express ideas, oppose being different, listening and obeying is good, questioning elders is considered unfilial, elders are always right, hierarchical thinking, power naturally deserves obedience, emphasizing respect and order, not encouraging critical thinking, remnants of male dominance and gender inequality.
