I happened to see someone discussing Vitalik Buterin, and his story is really worth talking about.

Speaking of which, Vitalik Buterin's background is quite unique. Born in 1994 in Russia, his father is a computer scientist, so he grew up immersed in the world of code and technology. He taught himself programming at age 12, writing games in C++, which is a genius-level move in any era. But interestingly, the inspiration that truly changed the world for him didn't come from programming itself.

In 2011, at age 17, Vitalik was introduced to Bitcoin through his father and became completely captivated. Decentralization, immutability, distributed ledger—he saw not just a new payment method, but the potential to reshape the entire financial system. During that time, he immersed himself in cryptography and distributed systems research, also writing articles for Bitcoin magazines to share his insights, gradually emerging in the crypto scene.

But what makes this guy so impressive is that he quickly recognized Bitcoin's limitations. Bitcoin is mainly used for transfers, with limited scripting capabilities, making it impossible to support complex applications. So Vitalik Buterin started thinking: could we build a more versatile blockchain platform that allows developers to freely create various decentralized applications? That’s how the idea of Ethereum was born.

In 2013, he made a bold decision—drop out of the University of Toronto and devote himself fully to developing Ethereum. Traveling with a backpack, attending various tech conferences and hackathons, pitching his ideas to developers and investors. Although some questioned him, with solid technical skills and firm conviction, he convinced many.

During Ethereum’s ICO in 2014, they raised about $18 million, but the development process afterward was tough—technical challenges, funding pressures, team disagreements one after another. Vitalik relied on his deep technical expertise and leadership to steer the team through. On July 30, 2015, the Ethereum mainnet officially launched, changing the entire blockchain world from then on.

Ethereum’s greatness lies in the fact that it’s not just a digital currency, but an open platform. Developers can build applications in finance, social media, gaming, and more on top of it. Smart contracts turn code into law, executing transactions automatically without third parties. Ethereum’s ecosystem quickly flourished, spawning countless innovative projects, truly transforming the global financial and tech landscape.

Looking back now, Vitalik Buterin has become a globally recognized figure, named one of Time magazine’s 100 most influential people. But he remains focused on the technology itself, dedicated to improving Ethereum’s performance, security, and scalability, pushing blockchain technology’s global adoption.

This story is quite inspiring—genius plus persistence, using wisdom and courage to create a whole new era. His experience motivates countless young people to engage in technological innovation, explore the unknown, and use technology to change the world.
