Charisma is a presence that is the hardest to see, yet the easiest to sense. It includes integrity and sincerity, and also carries insight and discernment; it’s shaped by the settling of life experience, and it bears a courageous edge and bold brilliance. It may shine through the clarity and sharpness of one’s gaze, or it may be hidden in the melancholy and quiet composure of one’s expression. It holds compassion in the depths of the heart, as well as mental agility, quick understanding, and broad knowledge. Even that solitary figure seems to be part of it. But none of these are things that can be directly “seen”—they’re only gradually felt in the course of getting to know someone.
