Crypto World Network reported that a Puerto Rico crypto whale filed a lawsuit with the U.S. Federal Court in San Francisco this week, accusing Coinbase of refusing to release funds that were stolen in 2024 and later recovered. The case involves a large-scale phishing attack that took place in August 2024, in which an “inferno drainer” group stole Ethereum stablecoin DAI worth more than $55 million. The plaintiff said that its hired on-chain investigation firm successfully traced the stolen funds to a Coinbase account, and that Coinbase confirmed in December 2024 that it had identified and frozen the funds. However, the plaintiff alleges that one and a half years later, Coinbase still refused to return the funds, claiming that a court order is required. So far, Coinbase has not responded to this.
