ME News report, May 5 (UTC+8). On May 3, a spokesperson for North Korea’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded to reporters’ questions about the U.S. hyping the so-called North Korean “cyber threat,” saying that in recent times, U.S. government agencies, media outlets, and related organizations have attempted to spread incorrect perceptions about North Korea to the international community, linking cyber-related fraud activities everywhere around the world to North Korea.

The spokesperson said it is unreasonable for the U.S. to describe itself as a “victim,” and accused the U.S. of carrying out indiscriminate cyberattacks on other countries by using the global IT infrastructure it controls. He also said that the media hype surrounding the so-called “cyber threat” is a continuation of the U.S.’s hostile policy toward North Korea, and is aimed at spreading false information for political purposes and damaging North Korea’s image.

The spokesperson said that North Korea will protect cyberspace from being harmed by malicious acts, and opposes using cyber issues as a political tool to infringe on sovereignty and interfere in other countries’ domestic affairs. North Korea will not tolerate hostile forces’ confrontation attempts, including in cyberspace, and will take necessary measures to safeguard national interests and citizens’ rights. (Source: PANews)
