ME News message: On May 5 (UTC+8), a North Korea Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson said on May 3 in response to reporters’ questions about the U.S.’ hype of the so-called North Korean “cyber threat” that U.S. government agencies, media, and related organizations have recently attempted to spread incorrect perceptions of North Korea to the international community, linking cyber-related frauds occurring around the globe to North Korea.

The spokesperson said it is not reasonable for the U.S. to describe itself as a “victim,” and accused the U.S. of using the global IT infrastructure it controls to carry out indiscriminate cyberattacks against other countries. He also said that the public-opinion hype surrounding the so-called “cyber threat” is a continuation of the U.S.’ hostile policy toward the enemy, with the goal of spreading false information for political purposes and damaging North Korea’s image.

The spokesperson said North Korea will protect cyberspace from being harmed by malicious acts and opposes using cyber issues as a political tool to infringe on sovereignty and interfere in other countries’ domestic affairs. North Korea will not tolerate the confrontational attempts of hostile forces, including in cyberspace, and will take the necessary measures to safeguard national interests and citizens’ rights.
