ME News report, April 15 (UTC+8). According to monitoring by 1M AI News, Google has officially rolled out the desktop search application (Google app for desktop) for Windows users worldwide, after it was previously only tested in the United States. Users can bring up the search box by pressing Alt+Space, enabling direct searches of web pages, local files, installed apps, and Google Drive files. The built-in AI Mode provides Gemini-powered AI responses and follow-up questions. The app integrates Google Lens and screen sharing: Lens lets users select any content on the screen for search, such as translating text in images or solving problems; screen sharing lets users choose a specific window or full screen and ask questions directly, without switching apps. The Verge likens it to macOS’s Spotlight, but with added AI capabilities. Currently, it supports only English and requires Windows 10 or later. Google is also reportedly testing a macOS version of the Gemini standalone app, which will directly compete with the desktop versions of ChatGPT and Claude. (Source: BlockBeats)
