Claude Code Desktop Version Redesign, Multiple Concurrent Conversations, Built-in Terminal and File Editor
ME News report, April 15 (UTC+8). According to monitoring by 1M AI News, Anthropic has redesigned the Claude Code desktop application. The core change is the ability to run multiple programming sessions in parallel within the same window. The new sidebar centrally manages all active and historical sessions, allowing filtering by status, project, or environment. After a PR is merged or closed, sessions are automatically archived.
While tasks are in progress, users can also open a sidebar chat window via a shortcut (⌘+;). The sidebar chat reads the context from the main thread but does not write anything back to the main thread, preventing interference with tasks currently being executed.
This update directly integrates several commonly used development tools into the application:
All panels support drag-and-drop layout arrangement, allowing users to freely combine and configure their workspace layout. The desktop version has now achieved full compatibility with CLI plugins, meaning plugins installed in the terminal are also usable on the desktop. SSH remote connection support has also been extended from Linux to Mac.
The interface adds three new display modes (Verbose, Normal, Summary), letting users freely switch from detailed tool-calling information to pure results display. A new usage button provides an at-a-glance view of the context window and session usage. All Pro, Max, Team, Enterprise, and API users can use these features.
