Just been scrolling through some of the most famous NFT projects that actually shaped this entire space, and honestly, it's wild how much has changed since the early days. 🚀
Let me break down the iconic ones that everyone's still talking about. CryptoPunks was literally the OG - 10,000 pixelated characters that started the whole PFP culture. Someone paid $11.8M for CryptoPunk #7523 back in the day. That "COVID Alien" piece basically proved NFTs weren't just a meme anymore.
Then Bored Ape Yacht Club came along and took it to another level. The community aspect changed the game - you weren't just buying an image, you were getting access to exclusive events, merch drops, even metaverse real estate. A single BAYC sold for over $3M at peak hype. Pretty crazy when you think about it.
But here's what really blew my mind - Beeple's "Everydays: The First 5000 Days" selling for $69.3M at Christie's. That sale legitimized NFTs in the traditional art world overnight. Before that, a lot of galleries wouldn't touch digital art. After that? Everything changed.
The metaverse plays got interesting too. Sandbox LANDs became a thing - virtual real estate that celebrities like Snoop Dogg and brands like Adidas actually invested in. Over $4.3M for a single plot. Art Blocks took a different angle with generative art - algorithms creating unique pieces, and you don't even know what you're getting until after you mint. That uncertainty actually made it more exciting.
Axie Infinity was the famous NFT project that really brought gaming into the mix. Those cute creatures became a legit way for people in developing countries to earn income during the peak. Mystic Axies were going for over $1M. And then Otherside came through as the next evolution - virtual land connected to the BAYC metaverse ecosystem, with individual plots hitting over $1M.
Looking at current prices - BTC is at $78.81K, ETH sitting at $2.34K, XRP at $1.39 - the market's still moving. These famous NFT projects basically pioneered how we think about digital ownership now. Some projects have cooled off, others are still building.
Honestly curious what everyone's take is on this. Are you still holding any of these iconic NFTs, or did you exit? Which of these famous NFT collections would you want to own if you could go back? I'm always checking what's happening on Gate with these assets. Drop your thoughts below - would love to see what the community's still bullish on.
