Bitcoin Surpasses $80,000 with ETF Inflows; Strategy Gains in the Spotlight

Bitcoin reached a three-month high on Monday. Purchases in exchange-traded funds and long positions supported this rise. However, spot demand for the cryptocurrency still appears weak.

The world's largest cryptocurrency rose 2.7%, reaching $80,286.5 at 07:55. It has seen an increase of nearly 12% in April. Buying at lower prices fueled this rise.

Progress on a major regulatory bill in the US also provided support. However, the CLARITY Act is still far from becoming law.

Other cryptocurrency prices also rose on Monday. However, uncertainty surrounding the Middle East conflict and global interest rates limited gains.

Bitcoin Benefits from ETF Inflows, but Spot Demand Remains Sluggish

Bitcoin's April gains largely came from ETF inflows. There was a strong flow of capital into large US-traded funds.

According to the data, net ETF inflows reached $1.97 billion in April. This was the highest level since October 2025, when Bitcoin hit a record high.

However, inflows remained below the average monthly levels of 2025. The ETF inflows coincided with the strong performance of US equity markets in April.

Despite this, spot demand in the US remained sluggish. Prices on the largest US stock exchange traded below the global average spot price.

This suggests weak retail demand in the US, potentially signaling a turnaround after the recent performance.
Strategy Halts Bitcoin Purchases Ahead of Earnings Report

Strategy (NASDAQ:MSTR) halted its Bitcoin purchases this week, according to a statement by Chairman Michael Saylor. The company is the world's largest institutional Bitcoin holder.

This move comes just before Strategy's first-quarter earnings report, which will be released on Tuesday. The company anticipates revenue of $120.75 million and a loss of $13.67 million.

Strategy had already recorded a deep loss in the fourth quarter, a loss attributed to the decline in the value of its Bitcoin holdings.
