ME News report: On April 9 (UTC+8), White House press secretary Levit said on Wednesday local time that Iran has indicated it will transfer its uranium enrichment stockpile and described it as one of Donald Trump’s main priorities. Trump said that one of the main reasons to start a war is to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons, which Iran has long denied intending to do. At the briefing, Levit said, “This is a red line the President will never give in on; he is committed to ensuring this is carried out.” When asked whether Iran has indicated it will transfer uranium, Levit responded, “Yes, they have said so.” However, she did not reveal any specific details.

International Atomic Energy Agency Director General Grossi said that nearly half of Iran’s enriched uranium, with the highest enrichment level reaching 60%, is stored in a tunnel facility complex in Isfahan, and that this uranium is very likely still there. The tunnel facility complex was the only target that appeared not to have been severely damaged during the June Israeli-U.S. strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities last year. U.S. Secretary of Defense Hegseth previously said, “Right now, it is buried underground, and we are closely monitoring it. We are fully aware of what they have, and they know that themselves.” He also said that if necessary, Washington reserves the right to carry out further military strikes to destroy these enriched uranium stocks.
