ME News: On April 9 (UTC+8), the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission announced the appointment of David Woodcock as the new head of its enforcement division, succeeding the officer who previously stepped down. Woodcock previously served as the director of the SEC Fort Worth office (2011–2015), responsible for overseeing enforcement attorneys, review staff, and the accounting team, and for participating in investigations across nearly all major enforcement areas. Recently, he has been a partner at the law firm Gibson Dunn. Notably, Woodcock has no clear background in the crypto industry, and this appointment comes as the SEC’s crypto enforcement efforts are sparking controversy. Previously, disagreements over case handling and enforcement standards led to the former head’s relatively short tenure and drew attention from Congress. SEC Chairman Paul Atkins said this appointment will help strengthen efforts to crack down on “misconduct that causes the greatest harm to investors.” (Source: ODaily)
