Don’t hold any industry up in a halo.
A jacket on Xianyu was snapped up by a teacher from Shanxi. When she was shopping, she was extremely meticulous—I took pictures of about 20-something different parts from the video and photos. Because the buyer told me she’s a teacher and wants to wear this outfit for her public lesson, she asked even more detailed questions. There’s nothing wrong with that—when people buy things, it’s normal to ask a few more questions.
After the clothes were delivered, the buyer didn’t confirm receipt. I figured a teacher probably has a lot going on, so she would automatically confirm receipt in three days. I didn’t expect that when the delivery-acceptance date was coming up, the buyer would extend the receipt period again. My coworker also reminded me, saying this person probably wasn’t trying to get the clothes for free—using me as a fitting room.
I even argued back: Impossible, right? Could a teacher really do something like that?
My coworker’s words proved to be true. This morning, the buyer sent a long voice message. Roughly, it went like this: she’s a teacher, and she’s also quite fat—bright, vivid colors don’t look good on her. Could she switch to some other clothing?
It had already been three days since she received the clothes. She didn’t confirm receipt—after the lesson was over, the clothes had fulfilled their mission, and then began this whole routine.
There’s no nobility or lowliness in a profession, and no halo equals value. Don’t over-glamorize any particular industry; its darker side is just as worthy of contempt. A halo is just a filter—only by taking off the spell can you stay more clear-headed.
