ME News Report, May 3rd (UTC+8), Iran’s largest cryptocurrency exchange Nobitex was founded by members of the Kharrazi family, who have close ties to Iranian political circles. Investigations show that the platform was established by brothers Ali and Mohammad Kharrazi, who previously used the surname “Aghamir” to conceal their connection to the Kharrazi family. Nobitex currently serves over 11 million users, and despite Iran’s long-standing conflicts with the United States and Israel, the platform continued trading during nationwide internet outages. Analysts point out that its trading volume during the conflict exceeded $100 million, with large amounts of funds flowing overseas. On-chain analysis firms report that the exchange handled transactions linked to sanctioned entities, estimated between $22 million and $366 million. It is claimed that wallets associated with the Central Bank of Iran transferred hundreds of millions of dollars in cryptocurrency assets to Nobitex, possibly to evade financial sanctions. However, Nobitex denies any connection to the government, claiming that illegal transactions account for only a small part of its business. (Source: MLion)
