ETH rises 0.65% in 15 minutes: whale capital inflows into exchanges combined with technical breakout push short-term surge

From 21:30 to 21:45 (UTC) on May 2, 2026, ETH achieved a +0.65% gain within 15 minutes. The price quickly climbed into the USDT 2313.37 to 2342.6 range, with an amplitude of 1.26%—short-term volatility clearly intensified.

The main driver behind this move was the continued inflow of whale funds into exchanges. On April 29, a transfer of 114,325 ETH (about $254 million) was moved to Coinbase, drawing market attention to potential sell-off risks. Some of the funds continued flowing into other exchanges on May 2, bringing total on-chain transfer volume to about $420,0000 (10-minute data), which increased short-term liquidity and led to a mismatch between supply and demand, pushing the price upward in the short term.

At the same time, the number of active on-chain addresses grew in parallel, significantly boosting market participation and noticeably increasing trading volume compared with the previous hour’s average. From a technical perspective, ETH successfully broke through the pivot point resistance level at 2309.792, and stronger buy-side demand further supported the rally. However, the derivatives market showed a divergent picture: the negative taker buy-sell ratio and the decline in the funding rate suggest that some investors chose to close positions or switch to a wait-and-see stance, intensifying the struggle between bulls and bears.

In the short term, it’s important to monitor changes in ETH balances on exchanges. If whale funds are concentrated on selling, it may trigger a pullback. On the technical side, resistance to watch is 2399.224, while the support level to watch is 2215.214. On-chain capital flow direction and changes in the funding rate will be key indicators to track going forward.
