ME News report, April 14 (UTC+8). According to monitoring by 1M AI News, Amap’s embodied intelligence research division under Alibaba is preparing to roll out a quadruped robot, which will be Alibaba’s first product in the robotics hardware sector. An Amap spokesperson said the company “has been making deep investments in embodied intelligence, continuously releasing multiple embodied models, and actively exploring hardware product form factors such as quadruped robots and humanoid robots,” and that it is expected to “soon” release its first quadruped robot. The product will face direct competition with Unitree Technology’s Go series, with the Go2 priced at $1,600.

Amap is also evaluating the feasibility of humanoid robots. Alibaba is thus entering an increasingly crowded race: Unitree Technology, Zhiyuan Robotics, and the affiliated company Ant Group have all moved into this field. Talent competition is also heating up—robotics company UBTECH is currently offering a top salary of 124 million RMB (about $18 million) to recruit a chief scientist.

It’s not surprising that Amap, which started with map services and local life businesses, is moving into robotics. Amap has accumulated a large amount of indoor and outdoor spatial data and navigation algorithms, which are the core foundation for mobile robots.
