ME News Report, April 14 (UTC+8). According to monitoring by 1M AI News, Amap (Gaode Map), Alibaba’s autonomous intelligence research department, is preparing to roll out a quadruped robot—Alibaba’s first product in the field of robotics hardware. A Gaode spokesperson said the company “has made a deep commitment to embodied intelligence, continuously released multiple embodied models, and actively explored hardware product forms such as quadruped robots and humanoid robots,” adding that it is expected to “release the first quadruped robot soon.”

The product will directly compete with Unitree Technology’s Go series; the Go2 is priced at $1,600. Gaode is also assessing the feasibility of humanoid robots. Alibaba is therefore entering an increasingly crowded track: Unitree Technology, Zhiyuan Robotics, and the affiliated company Ant Group have all moved into this space. Talent competition is also intensifying—robotics company UBTECH has currently offered the highest salary of 124 million RMB (about $18 million) to recruit a chief scientist.

It’s not surprising that Gaode, which started with map services and local living services, is getting into robotics: Gaode has accumulated a large amount of indoor and outdoor spatial data and navigation algorithms, which are the core capability foundation for mobile robots. (Source: BlockBeats)
