Alibaba Amapo will release its first quadruped robot, directly competing with the Yushu Go series.
ME News, on April 14 (UTC+8), according to monitoring by 1M AI News, the embodied intelligence research department of Alibaba-affiliated Amap is preparing to launch a quadruped robot, which will be Alibaba’s first product in the robotics hardware field. Amap’s spokesperson said the company “has already made deep investments in embodied intelligence, continues to release multiple embodied models, and actively explores hardware product form factors such as quadruped robots and humanoid robots,” and it is expected to “soon” release its first quadruped robot. The product will directly compete with Unitree Technology’s Go series, with the Go2 priced at $1,600. Amap is also assessing the feasibility of humanoid robots. Alibaba is thus entering an increasingly crowded arena: Unitree Technology, Zhiyuan Robotics, and affiliated company Ant Group have all moved into this space. Talent competition is also intensifying, with robotics company UBTECH currently offering the highest salary of 124 million RMB (about $18 million) to recruit a chief scientist. It is not surprising that Amap, which started out with map services and local life services, is building robots: Amap has accumulated a large amount of indoor and outdoor spatial data and navigation algorithms—these are the core capability foundations for mobile robots.
