I have noticed that Elon Musk's relationship with cryptocurrencies remains one of the most discussed topics in the market. The tech billionaire, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, not only owns digital assets, but his movements and statements have the power to move entire markets. Let’s see what’s really in his crypto portfolio and why these coins interest him.
Let’s start with Bitcoin. Musk publicly adopted BTC in 2021 when Tesla announced an investment of 1.5 billion dollars. Although the company has sold most of its holdings, Musk himself confirmed that he still owns Bitcoin personally. The reason? He sees it as digital gold, a store of value with unmatched market dominance. Today, BTC trades around 78.33K.
Ethereum is also in his portfolio. He revealed this at the "The ₿ Word" conference a few years ago. Musk understands that ETH is fundamental for DeFi, NFTs, and innovative blockchain applications, positioning it as a key player in the crypto ecosystem. The current price is around 2.31K.
But if there’s one cryptocurrency that defines Elon Musk’s relationship with digital currencies, it’s Dogecoin. He doesn’t hide it. From calling it “the people's coin” to promoting its use at Tesla and SpaceX, his support has been transformative for DOGE. He is attracted to its playful meme-based origin, but also believes in its potential as a means of payment due to its low fees and active community. DOGE is currently trading near 0.11 with a -0.48% change in 24 hours.
There is constant speculation about other coins he might own or influence. Shiba Inu is an interesting case: although he denies owning it, his tweets about "Floki" and other dog-themed coins generate significant market movements. SHIB is at 0.00 with a -1.44% drop. Floki Inu, named after Musk’s Shiba dog, has also gained attention, though there’s no proof he owns it. FLOKI trades at 0.00 with -0.77%.
What’s interesting is that Musk’s influence goes beyond his actual holdings. His public comments generate instant volatility, something few individuals in the world can achieve. If you’re interested in following these movements and exploring these cryptocurrencies, Gate offers good coverage of all these assets so you can monitor them in real time.
