U.S. Treasury seeks access to Mythos model under Anthropic to identify system vulnerabilities
ME News, April 14 (UTC+8). According to an informed source, the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s technical team is seeking access to Anthropic’s Mythos artificial intelligence model in order to begin searching for system vulnerabilities. The source said that the goal of Sam Cocos, the Treasury’s Chief Information Officer, is to obtain access to the model as soon as possible (as early as this week at the latest). Anthropic has only made the model available to a limited number of institutions. The source added that last week, Cocos introduced the technology to the Treasury’s cybersecurity team and instructed them to prepare for the ultimate threats that powerful AI systems could pose. U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessent and Federal Reserve Chair Powell convened an emergency meeting with Wall Street leaders last week, fearing that the Mythos model could usher in an era with higher cyber risk. Anthropic has issued a warning that if companies do not test their own systems and establish defenses before broad deployment, the model may have the capability to support cyberattacks.
