I've noticed that many beginners make the same mistake — they just buy a coin and wait for it to grow. Then they get stuck in a trade for weeks or even months. I decided to share why profit is not just a number, but your main tool for success in trading.

Profit is essentially your target profit in percentage, at which you close the position. No need to guess or wait for a miracle — just calculate in advance at what price you'll get the desired income, and place a sell order. The formula is simple: the target price equals the entry price multiplied by (1 plus the desired profit in percentage divided by 100).

Let me give a real example. I bought a coin at 1.000 USDT, and I want a 0.5% profit. I calculate: 1.000 × 1.005 = 1.005 USDT. That's it — I set a sell order at 1.005 and wait. Or another example: I entered at 0.328, with a target profit of 0.6%. It comes out to 0.328 × 1.006 ≈ 0.330. I exit at this level.

What does correct profit calculation give? First, you know exactly when to exit a trade without relying on emotions. Second, you can earn small but frequent profits — this is much more effective than waiting for one big move. Third, you gradually increase either the number of coins or capital, depending on your strategy.

What profit sizes are considered optimal? If you want to avoid hanging around — set 0.3–0.6%. For volatile coins, 0.7–1.0%. Above 1.5% is already high risk, as the price may not reach the target, especially if the market isn't actively growing.

Here's an important point: exchange fees are about 0.1% for entry and 0.1% for exit, totaling 0.2%. So, profit should be at least more than 0.2% to break even after fees. If you set it at 0.5%, your net profit will be approximately 0.3% after deducting fees.

What happens if you don't consider profit at all? It's like driving in an unfamiliar city without a navigator. You might wait too long for a rise, then the market turns around, and you end up in a loss. Or, if you set the profit too small — less than 0.2% — it won't even cover the fees.

My conclusion: always calculate profit before a trade using the formula, not by eye. It's better to make five successful trades at 0.5% each than one at 5% that you never get. Trading is mathematics, not intuition. Currently, BTC is trading around 78.34K (+2.10%), ETH at 2.30K (+1.29%), BNB holding at 616.00 (-0.16%). Whether you're trading large assets or altcoins, the principle of calculating profit remains the same.
