The U.S. Department of the Treasury seeks to access the Mythos model under Anthropic to identify system vulnerabilities.
ME News message. On April 14 (UTC+8), an informed source said the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s technical team is seeking to connect with Anthropic’s Mythos AI model in order to begin looking for system vulnerabilities. The source said the goal of Sam Cocos, the Treasury’s chief information officer, is to obtain access to the model as soon as possible (possibly as early as this week). The source added that Anthropic has only made the model available to a limited number of institutions. The source said that last week, Cocos briefed the Treasury’s cybersecurity team on the technology and instructed them to prepare for the ultimate threats that powerful AI systems could pose. U.S. Treasury Secretary [Bessent] and Federal Reserve Chair [Powell] convened an emergency meeting with Wall Street leaders last week, worried that the Mythos model could usher in an era with higher cyber risk. Anthropic has issued a warning that if companies do not test their own systems and build defenses before the model is widely released, the model may be able to support cyberattacks.
