I used to wonder how much money there is in the world.

It turns out that the answer isn't so simple because it depends on how we count.
If we talk about physical cash — coins and banknotes — we're talking about roughly $6.6 trillion.
It sounds like a lot, but that's just the beginning.
When we add up all the money stored in bank accounts, we reach about $37 trillion.
That's already a completely different scale.
But wait, it's not over yet.
If we include investments, derivatives, and a whole bunch of financial assets, the number jumps over 1.2 quadrillion dollars.
Seriously, over a quadrillion.
I think about this and wonder — how much of this money actually exists in tangible form?
How much of it is just numbers on screens?
And where does cryptocurrency fit into all of this?
Bitcoin and the rest of the ecosystem are still a small percentage of this global pool, but maybe that’s changing.
The question that really puzzles me: what is our share of this money in the world?
For most of us, the answer is quite depressing.
