I've noticed that many beginners in crypto make one common mistake — simply buying a coin and silently waiting for it to grow. Then they hang in a trade for weeks or even months. This is not trading, it's gambling.
What is profit? It's just the target percentage of profit at which you exit the position. Essentially, your pre-set earning goal. You bought a coin — so you should already know at what price you'll sell it. This is basic discipline.
Why even calculate profit? Because it allows you to: clearly understand your exit point instead of guessing; earn small but consistent profits; or increase the number of coins or dollars — depending on your strategy. Without this, you're just drifting.
How is profit calculated? The formula is simple. The target price equals the entry price multiplied by (1 plus the profit percentage divided by 100). It sounds complicated, but it's not.
Calculation examples will help you understand faster. Suppose you bought a coin at 1.000 USDT and want to earn 0.5% profit. The target price will be 1.000 multiplied by 1.005, which equals 1.005 USDT. You set a sell order at this price — and that's it.
Another example: bought at 0.328 USDT, need a 0.6% profit. Calculating: 0.328 multiplied by 1.006 equals approximately 0.330 USDT. You exit the trade at this price.
What is the optimal profit to aim for? If you don't want to get stuck in a coin — set 0.3–0.6%. If the coin is volatile — you can go for 0.7–1.0%. Above 1.5% is already high risk, especially when the market isn't rising.
What happens with an incorrect profit target? Too small — it may not cover the fee (less than 0.2% is a loss). Too large — will you wait? Usually not, and you'll stay in the negative for several days. Not calculating at all is like driving in an unfamiliar city without a navigator.
One important detail: the exchange fee is usually 0.1% for entry and 0.1% for exit, totaling 0.2%. Therefore, your profit should be at least above 0.2% to break even. If you set 0.5% — your net profit after fees will be about 0.3%.
The simple conclusion: always calculate profit before a trade. Don't guess — use the formula. Better five trades at 0.5% than one at 5% that you won't wait for. Trading is math, not intuition. Currently, BTC is around 77.31K with a 1.66% increase, ETH around 2.28K with a 0.89% increase, BNB around 617.50 with a 0.24% increase. The market moves, but your strategy remains the same — precise calculation and discipline.
