AIMPACT News, April 14 (UTC+8), the Hong Kong Legislative Council established the Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Technology Development Subcommittee and held its first meeting today. Member of the Election Committee and Legislative Councilor Wu Jie-zhuang, who has long focused on cutting-edge technological development, was elected chairman.

The development of artificial intelligence and robotics technology is the subcommittee’s focus on the development strategy for AI and robotics in Hong Kong, conducting a comprehensive review of the economic benefits and growth potential brought by various industries (including finance, healthcare, logistics, education, construction, and creative industries); in-depth discussion on the impact of technological applications on the local labor market structure, specific effects and substitution risks across different job types (from frontline operators to professional positions); examining whether current human resources policies, vocational education, and retraining mechanisms are sufficient to cope with industry transformation; and actively proposing opinions and suggestions on how to balance technological dividends with labor protections, promote “human-machine collaboration” models, and improve talent pool development.
