Visa has expanded stablecoin settlement on Polygon, Base, Canton Network, Arc, and Tempo
Visa has extended the stablecoin settlement pilot, launched in 2023, to nine blockchains, adding Polygon, Base, Canton Network, Arc, and Tempo to Ethereum, Solana, Stellar, and Avalanche. The company is testing whether stablecoins can accelerate cross-border payments and make settlements available 24/7, with partners choosing the appropriate network and Visa serving as the unified settlement mechanism. According to Visa, the annual transaction volume in the pilot reached approximately $7 billion with a quarterly growth of 50%, but this still represents a small share of the core business. Interest in this area increased after the adoption of the GENIUS Act in 2025, and a contentious issue remains the payments to token holders, which are being discussed within the framework of the CLARITY Act; Senator Tom Tillis intends to promote the document after the banking committee resumes work on May 11.
