I've actually always been quite annoyed by the matter of "reporting."

When reporting, as a subordinate proposing their own plan to a superior, you need to consider and prepare from as many different angles as possible.
When making preparations, you should exhaust all possibilities and write out every scenario.
Some angles (which I personally think) are of low priority or unreasonable edge cases, but you still need to prepare rich materials for the superior's reference.
