Just realized I never saved my credit freeze PIN and now I'm stuck trying to figure out how to unlock my credit. Turns out it's not as complicated as I thought - all three bureaus have workarounds if you lose it.

So here's the thing: if you're wondering how do I unlock my credit without the PIN, it depends which bureau you're dealing with. Equifax is probably the easiest - you can just log into your myEquifax account online with your username and password and unfreeze it right there. No PIN needed. You can also call them at 888-298-0045 or mail in a request with ID copies if you prefer.

TransUnion's similar for online - you can unlock your credit through your account without entering a PIN. But if you're calling them (888-909-8872), you'll need that six-digit PIN. If you lost it, you can create a new one by logging in online first.

Experian's the strict one - they want the PIN no matter how you try to unlock your credit, whether it's online, phone, or mail. But they have an online form where you can request they send you the PIN if you verify your identity. Call them at 888-397-3742 if you need help.

One thing I learned: there's a difference between temporarily unfreezing for like a month when you're applying for a loan versus permanently lifting it. Temp lifts are clutch when you're shopping around for credit cards or mortgages. Just know it goes back on automatically after the time's up.

Now I'm storing all my PINs in a password manager because I'm not doing this again. LastPass, 1Password, or Bitwarden all work fine for this. Honestly should've done it from the start.
