Just spent way too much time digging into personal loans for bad credit, and honestly? It's not as bleak as I thought. Like, yeah, having a credit score under 600 sucks, but there are actually lenders out there who don't immediately ghost you.
So here's the thing - most places will still run a credit check (no getting around that), but some are way more chill about your actual score. Navy Federal is solid if you're military or connected to the military somehow, no minimum score needed. Rocket Loans is the speedrunner of the bunch if you need cash same-day, though they want at least 580. LendingClub will let you bring a co-borrower to help your odds, which is clutch if you're struggling solo.
If you hate fees, Happy Money is lowkey interesting - they've got this whole 'no late fees, no app fees' thing going, but the minimum loan is $5k which might be overkill. Upgrade is surprisingly open to people with short credit histories, like if you're only 2 years into building credit. LendingPoint gives approvals in literal seconds, which is wild. And OneMain Financial? They're flexible with repayment schedules - you can pick 24, 36, 48, or 60 months depending on what your budget can handle.
The real talk though: watch out for origination fees (they can hit 7-10%) and always check the APR caps. Most legit lenders don't go above 36% - anything higher is basically predatory. Also, payday loans are a trap. Just don't.
Before applying anywhere, know your actual credit score first. Some places let you prequalify without hurting your score more. Then compare APRs and terms side-by-side because that's where the real difference shows up. Bad credit loans aren't impossible to find, you just gotta do the homework.
Anyone else dealt with this? Which lenders did you actually have decent experiences with?
