Just watched this fascinating Bitcoin Magazine Podcast episode with Bethany Hamilton and Adam Dirks, and honestly it's one of those conversations that sticks with you.
Bethany's story is already legendary - professional surfer who lost her arm in a shark attack back in 2003 and came back to compete anyway. But what really got me was hearing how she and Adam Dirks actually got into Bitcoin. It wasn't some tech bro thing for them. They're both serious about faith, and when they read 'Thank God For Bitcoin' by Jimmy Song, something clicked.
Adam Dirks explained it perfectly: "There's something about Bitcoin where you almost have to be ready for it, ready to hear it." For them that moment came during the pandemic when their salary got cut in half. That kind of shock made them question everything - the government, the money system, all of it. They basically went down the full rabbit hole from there.
What I appreciated most was how they frame Bitcoin as just common sense in a financial system that's completely lost its way. They're not trying to convince anyone with hype. They're just saying: this is what sound money looks like, and yeah, we're publicly supporting this now.
The conversation with Matt Odell covers way more ground than just crypto too. Worth checking out if you want to hear from people who came to Bitcoin through genuine conviction rather than FOMO. Adam Dirks and Bethany bring a refreshing perspective to how people actually discover and adopt Bitcoin.
