Just reading up on sports car sales from a few years back and honestly kinda surprised how many people are still buying these things. Everyone keeps saying sports cars are dying but the numbers tell a different story. The most popular sports cars in America back in 2023 were actually doing pretty solid, and some of the classics are still crushing it.
So like, the Ford Mustang absolutely dominated everything else that year. We're talking thousands of sales every month, which is wild for a performance vehicle. The Dodge Challenger was right there too, moving serious numbers because Americans just love that nostalgic muscle car vibe. Chevrolet had both the Camaro and Corvette in the mix, and even though the Corvette costs way more, people were still grabbing them.
What's interesting is the mix you see in the most popular sports cars category. You've got your affordable fun rides like the Toyota GR86 and Mazda MX-5 Miata sitting alongside luxury stuff like Porsche 911s and BMW models. The German cars like the Audi A5 and BMW 8-Series were steady movers too, even at higher price points. Seems like there's still demand across the whole spectrum, from budget hot rods to six-figure supercars.
The crazy part? This was supposed to be the death of sports cars with everything going electric and all that. Yet here we are with Ford Mustang pulling over 10k sales in a single month. Makes you wonder if people just aren't ready to give up the whole speed and performance thing, regardless of what the industry predictions say.
