U.S. Forces Korea Commander Xavier Brensson denied on the 21st that the “THAAD” missile defense system deployed in South Korea had been transported to the Middle East. Brensson said during a hearing of the U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee on that day that, in response to questions from Democratic Senator Gary Peters about the “THAAD” system, “We have not moved the ‘THAAD’ system, so ‘THAAD’ remains on the (Korean) Peninsula.” He said that before the U.S. launched its strike against Iran last June, code-named “Midnight Hammer,” there had been a “radar repositioning” move, “some of which have not been returned, but the ‘THAAD’ system itself remains on the peninsula.” He also said that reports that U.S. troops moved the “THAAD” system out of South Korea were due to “dynamic repositioning” of equipment, which was transported in batches to Osan Air Base in South Korea.
