Groq, backed by $NVDA, is reportedly relying on Samsung Foundry for its LPU chips

Groq previously partnered with Samsung for its second-generation LPU on Samsung’s SF4X 4nm process, and reports now suggest Samsung will also manufacture Groq’s third-generation LPU
As per The Economic Daily, IBM, Baidu, and a Chinese crypto company are procuring 4nm chips from Samsung, which would mean Samsung is attracting more external foundry demand beyond its internal Exynos needs
This strengthens Samsung Foundry’s position for AI inference, custom accelerators, and non-TSMC customers looking for capacity
However, Samsung still seems behind at the leading edge. The same report says Samsung’s 2nm yield remains below 60%, while TSMC is reportedly around 90%, so this does not mean Samsung has caught TSMC. It mainly means Samsung’s mature 4nm node is becoming more competitive
