AI could kill us all, says Elon!
Musk's lawsuit has begun, and it’s getting interesting.
Musk told a federal jury that artificial intelligence could “kill us all,” making AI safety a major focus of his case against OpenAI.
While testifying, he compared the risks of uncontrolled AI to those in The Terminator, saying the goal should be a future more like Star Trek. According to him, OpenAI was originally created to ensure powerful AI wouldn’t be controlled by profit-driven tech companies.
He also claimed his concerns grew after a 2015 conversation with Larry Page, who allegedly called him a “speciesist” for prioritizing humans over future digital intelligence.
At the center of the lawsuit is Musk’s claim that OpenAI abandoned its nonprofit mission, especially after ChatGPT helped turn the company into one of the most valuable AI firms globally. Musk is seeking over $150 billion in damages from OpenAI and Microsoft.
However, OpenAI’s lawyers argue that Musk left after losing a leadership struggle and is now suing following the launch of his own AI company, xAI.
Musk is expected back in court for cross-examination today.
