ME News Report, April 14 (UTC+8),
Both CBS and NBC in the United States cite a U.S. official as saying that contacts between the U.S. and Iran are ongoing, and “progress is being made toward reaching an agreement.”
CNN, citing sources familiar with the matter, reports that U.S. officials are internally discussing details of a second face-to-face meeting before the temporary ceasefire agreement between the U.S. and Iran expires.
Whether the talks can take place depends on whether progress can be made in communications among all parties in the coming days, and officials are discussing potential dates and locations for the meeting.
The report also states that a “regional source” revealed that before finalizing Pakistan’s Islamabad as the location for the last round of negotiations, several alternative sites were proposed, including Geneva in Switzerland, Vienna in Austria, and Istanbul in Turkey.
Currently, Geneva and Islamabad are again under consideration.
According to sources familiar with the matter, depending on the progress of communications in the coming days, the U.S. and Iran may also extend the two-week ceasefire period to buy more time for negotiations.
The next round of “direct talks” between the U.S. and Iran may be held in Islamabad on the 16th. (Source: ODAILY)
