AIMPACT News, April 28 (UTC+8): In a client report, Bridgewater warned that emerging AI tools such as Claude Code pose a survival threat to traditional software companies, similar to the historical shift when Amazon replaced Barnes & Noble. The report was written by Co–Chief Investment Officers Bob Prince, Greg Jensen, and Karen Karniol-Tambour. Software industry stocks have already been hit by a sell-off, and the S&P 500 Software and Services Index is down 16.6% year to date. At the same time, layoffs justified by AI cost savings are spreading across industries, from large technology companies to financial services firms. Bridgewater wrote in the report: “The market has begun pricing the risks for application software companies. Companies will either evolve alongside AI or face disruption.”
