U.S. sanctions have forced Iran to take extreme measures to continue oil production.

ME News message: On April 27 (UTC+8), due to the U.S. imposing a blockade on Iranian ports, Iran is unable to ship oil to customers, and empty oil tankers cannot dock to load cargo, causing its oil inventories to continue to pile up. To prevent some oil fields from shutting down, Iran has started storing oil on floating oil tankers. However, according to current and former Iranian officials, this country, which relies heavily on oil exports for most of its revenue, is now using methods it had not used before to save storage space. These officials said that Iranian authorities are using containers and “simple storage facilities,” meaning storing oil in abandoned storage tanks in the southern oil hub of Ahvaz and Asaluyeh regions.
