AIMPACT News, April 27 (UTC+8), OpenAI has once again decommissioned the dedicated Codex programming model, integrating its functionality into the main model. GPT-5.5 will offer stronger agent programming capabilities and lower token usage. This is the second time OpenAI has decommissioned the Codex model; after the first decommissioning, it was temporarily restored, but now it has been fully merged into the main model and no longer operates as a standalone product. Codex was originally based on the underlying model of GitHub Copilot. This integration marks OpenAI’s move to unify programming capabilities within the main model system.
