I just saw on Arkham that Vitalik sold a large amount of ETH this quarter—17,196 coins for charity and Ethereum Foundation support. The price dropped by 7% because of this, but his intention is clear: funds for major projects while the market is down.

The interesting part is where the money went. There’s $500,000 USDC flowing into Kanro, his biotech nonprofit. I know that Buterin is consistent with this pattern—whenever there are large token sales, they go to charity and research initiatives. As early as 2021, he donated 1.2 billion SHIB for COVID efforts in India.

His holdings now have decreased from 240,000 ETH to around 224,000, but he still has $450M in ETH and wrapped positions. Kanro itself focuses on open-source biomedical research and existential risk mitigation—covering many types of research. It’s like a long-term commitment strategy to the ecosystem while still contributing to bigger causes. It’s just nice to see this kind of pattern in the crypto space.
